  • Increasing prices of fodder barley: price trends on the Ukrainian market
    Опубликовано: 2024-05-03 15:02:22

During April, a consistent increase in feed barley prices was noted in Ukraine. This dynamics on the market was primarily due to the reduction in the supply of this grain crop.

This was reported by the information agency "APK-Inform".

High demand for fodder barley from traders and processing enterprises, as well as price dynamics on international markets, significantly affected the price of this grain.

In a month, purchase prices for fodder barley rose by UAH 200-500/t. As of May 1, they mostly amounted to UAH 5,000-6,400/t with delivery at warehouses of traders and processors (SRT).

The highest prices were recorded in the southern regions of the country and in the Poltava region, where the price per ton was UAH 7,300.

According to the publication, the situation with the availability of fodder barley on the domestic market is tense, so further price fluctuations are likely in the coming months.

It is also worth noting that according to the forecasts of agrarians, a decrease in grain production is expected this year: wheat - to 19.2 million tons (22.2 million tons were harvested in 2023), barley - to 4.9 million tons (compared to 5.7 million tons in 2023) and corn - up to 26.7 million tons (compared to 30.5 million tons in 2023).

Forecasts of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UZA) also foresee a decrease in the harvest of grain and oil crops in Ukraine to 76.1 million tons in 2024. This is due to a reduction in the area sown under grain crops due to unfavorable price conditions on the world market and high costs for export logistics.
