  • Ukraine opens the Dry Estuary for shellfish and shrimp farming
    Опубликовано: 2024-01-31 12:09:25

The Ukrainian government is taking an important step in marine aquaculture by allowing entrepreneurs to use the waters of the Dry Estuary to grow shellfish and shrimp. This is a historic decision that provides an opportunity to engage in mariculture on a lease basis.

According to a decree of the Government of Ukraine, electronic bidding for the lease right is already underway for entrepreneurs interested in developing marine aquaculture in the part of the Dry Estuary in Odesa region.

This initiative, approved by the government, creates opportunities for entrepreneurs to grow mussels, shrimp and other marine products in the open water of the Dry Estuary, which has free water exchange with the sea and the required salinity.

The lease agreements will be concluded for 7 years, as the first profit from mariculture is possible only in the third year of economic activity.

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Holovnya emphasized that marine aquaculture is a promising area for the Ukrainian economy. According to him, it will allow supplying high-quality and affordable seafood to the domestic market.

Participation in the e-auction will determine the entrepreneurs who will be entitled to lease the water area in the Sukhoi Estuary, marking Ukraine's transition to new opportunities in mariculture development and strengthening its position in the international seafood market.
