This year, the territories of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russian troops have grown an impressive amount of agricultural products. According to NASA, approximately 6.4 million tons of wheat and almost 1.5 million tons of sunflower were harvested in these territories, as reported by Bloomberg.
Inbal Becker-Reshefa, director of the NASA Harvest program, emphasized the impressive harvest volumes in the occupied territories, calling it "a huge amount of grain."
The researchers also pointed out that estimating the value of this grain and the damage it caused is important for Ukraine's future claims for reparations against Russia.
In addition, NASA's study reveals the possible consequences of exporting grain from the occupied territories to the Middle East and Africa under the Russian flag.
According to NASA Harvest, in 2023, about 7% of Ukraine's agricultural land remained unused, mostly along the front line. This demonstrates the problems that arise as a result of military conflicts and occupation.
