This week, the red and black currant season started in Ukraine. Despite the cool and long spring, this year's season started around the same time as last year.
Nevertheless, the price of the first batches of currants is currently on average 23% lower than at the beginning of last season.
Ukrainian gardeners are ready to sell red and black currants at prices ranging from UAH 50 to 70 per kilogram. Key market participants predict that the average price for currants this year may be lower compared to the previous season due to increased yields from new plantings that have come into fruition.
Gardeners explain the low prices for the first batches of currants this season by the high supply of seasonal fruits and berries on the Ukrainian market, as well as moderate demand for this segment. At the same time, they note that there is an increase in currant production in the country, which leads to increased competition between producers.
Ukraine is known for its high-quality currant production, which is in high demand both on the domestic and foreign markets. According to experts, prices for currants can fluctuate during the season, depending on the volume of supply.
