Ukraine bans palm oil in food

New rules have come into force in Ukraine that ban the use of palm oil in food. The move is part of the government's efforts to improve food quality and protect the health of citizens.

According to the new regulations, food manufacturers must take urgent measures to remove palm oil from the ingredients of their products. The law, which came into force in early September 2024, stipulates that all food products containing palm oil must either be withdrawn from sale or repackaged with new ingredients.

This measure is justified by numerous studies confirming the negative impact of palm oil on human health. It is a source of saturated fats, which can contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases and other chronic diseases. The authorities emphasize that the new law aims to reduce the consumption of harmful fats among Ukrainians and improve the overall health of the nation.

In addition, the new law encourages producers to look for alternative sources of fats, such as olive, rapeseed or sunflower oil. This should have a positive effect on the quality of food products, as these oils contain less saturated fat and are more beneficial for the body.

According to experts, the transition to other types of oils can also have an economic impact on the market. The cost of alternative oils is usually higher, which can lead to an increase in the prices of some products. However, according to experts, the long-term benefit from improving the health of the population will outweigh the possible short-term economic costs.

The ban on palm oil in Ukraine also corresponds to global trends in the field of food safety and healthy nutrition. Many countries have already taken similar measures, and Ukraine is following these examples, demonstrating its commitment to the health of citizens and high standards of food quality.
