Consideration of the increase in the import of live pigs in Ukraine

In 2023, Ukraine observes a significant increase in the volume of imports of live pigs, increasing their number by almost three times compared to the previous year. This became possible thanks to active measures in the field of foreign economic activity and development of the agro-industrial complex.

One of the key factors that influenced this increase is the high demand for pork in Ukraine. In particular, the growth of consumer demand and the improvement of the standard of living of the population led to an increase in the production and consumption of pork meat. The government decided to use the opportunities of the foreign market to meet the needs of the national market.

Measures to support the agricultural sector were an additional incentive for the import of live pigs. The government provided incentives and assistance to farmers to purchase and maintain high-quality pigs from other countries. This not only ensured the sustainability of domestic production, but also contributed to the introduction of new genetic solutions in Ukrainian pig farming.

Market analysts see that this trend will contribute to the further development of the agricultural sector in Ukraine. The increase in the volume of imports of live pigs opens up new opportunities for entrepreneurs and farmers, contributing to the expansion of production and improvement of the quality of pork.

At the same time, ensuring compliance of imported animals with high quality and safety standards remains an important challenge. The Government of Ukraine plans to improve the system of control and veterinary certification to guarantee the reliability of imported live pigs and prevent possible risks for domestic cattle breeding.

In general, the increase in the import of live pigs in Ukraine indicates the active development of the agro-industrial sector and the improvement of strategies for ensuring food security in the country.
