The FAO Food Price Index amounted to 118.5 points, which is 1.5% less than in November of the same year. However, the dairy and cereal sectors experienced a slight decline, which was offset by growth in other sectors such as meat, vegetable oils, and sugar.

In December 2023, global food prices in general decreased by 10.1% compared to the same period in 2022.

The cereal price index rose by 1.5% in December, but remained 16.6% lower than in the same month of 2022. According to the FAO, this increase was due to disruptions in the logistics systems of major exporting countries, problems in the Black Sea region, and higher wheat and corn prices due to the circumstances in Brazil and Ukraine, respectively.

World prices for barley and sorghum also increased, but rice prices rose by 1.6% due to increased purchases of Indian varieties and restrictions on their exports.

Summarizing the year 2023, the value of the FAO Cereal Price Index was 130.9 points, which is 15.4% lower than in 2022. This trend indicates the stability of supply on the global markets.

The price index for vegetable oils decreased by 1.4%, and the price index for sugar decreased by 16.6% in December compared to November. The meat price index also declined by 1% due to low import demand for pork from Asia.

As for dairy products, their price index increased by 1.6% in December compared to November, but remained 16.1% below the December 2022 index.
