Poland has prioritized the ban on imports of frozen raspberries from Ukraine. This decision is due to the concern of Polish farmers about the gradual but steady growth of Ukrainian raspberries on the Polish market, which reached more than 7,000 tons this year.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland Janusz Kowalski noted that the decision to ban the import of frozen raspberries from Ukraine should be made as soon as possible. He pointed out that during January-April this year, imports of Ukrainian raspberries to Poland increased to more than 7,000 tons.
"Let's tell Brussels that the ban on imports of frozen raspberries from Ukraine is our priority," emphasized Janusz Kowalski.
He expressed his readiness to meet with European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, Chairman of the European People's Party Manfred Weber and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to convince them of the need to ban imports of Ukrainian raspberries, which are now flooding the Polish market, responding to the demands of Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus. In his opinion, this is in the interests of the Polish economy.
Kowalski recalled that 42,000 Polish raspberry growers, who grow this berry on 21,000 hectares, are looking to the future with concern. In 2022, they produced 105,000 tons of Polish raspberries. He noted that last year, imports of frozen raspberries from Ukraine to Poland increased by a third to more than 22,000 tons, and in 2023, in January-April, this figure increased by 117% to more than 7,000 tons.
