A decrease in prices for a number of dairy products has been recorded in Ukraine, in particular milk, sour cream, butter and some types of cheese. According to the Milk Producers Association, the main factors restraining price growth remain low domestic demand and a decrease in the purchasing power of the population.
Producers are trying to maintain sales volumes through discounts and promotions in retail chains. At the same time, the formation of final prices in supermarkets is also influenced by energy instability, higher prices for fertilizers and increased logistics costs.
As of the current period, the following average prices have been recorded on the dairy market. 2.6% milk in film costs 47.75 UAH per kg (-2.3% per month), and in a plastic bottle - 65.70 UAH per kg (-1.7%). Kefir 2.5% shows mixed dynamics: in film — 61.20 UAH per kg (+4.6%), in bottle — 79.21 UAH per kg (+1.4%).
Sour cream 15% in glasses costs 189.51 UAH per kg (-0.6%), and in film — 151.41 UAH per kg (-0.17%). Yogurt also shows mixed trends: drinking in bottles — 121.78 UAH per kg (-2.06%), while spoon yogurt in glasses has risen in price to 167.08 UAH per kg (+2.4%). Sour milk cheese 9% costs an average of 292.70 UAH per kg (+0.1%).
The butter segment also shows a decrease in prices: domestic butter with a fat content of 72.5–73% costs 577.31 UAH per kg (-1.4%). At the same time, imported products remain significantly more expensive — UAH 1,159.50 per kg, which is 101% more than the Ukrainian analogue.
The cheese market is experiencing heterogeneous dynamics, where prices depend on the brand and country of origin. Ukrainian cheese (50%) costs UAH 609.93 per kg (+0.2%), Dutch cheese (45%) — UAH 600.38 per kg (-1.6%), and Ukrainian-made Maasdam has fallen in price to UAH 730.51 per kg (-4.9%). At the same time, imported Kroon costs UAH 529.00 per kg, which is 28% cheaper than its Ukrainian analogue.
Ukrainian-made Gouda cheese has risen in price to UAH 609.15 per kg (+4%), while imported Hollander costs UAH 439.00 per kg, which is 28% less. Domestically produced “Mozzarella” costs UAH 545.06 per kg (-3.5%), while imported ARO costs UAH 649.00 per kg (+19% compared to the Ukrainian version).
AVM analyst Georgy Kuhiashvili explains that low demand in the domestic market and weak purchasing power of the population are holding back price increases. Processors are actively stimulating sales through promotions and discounts, and demand for Ukrainian cheeses partially limits the growth of imports.
At the same time, experts warn of potential risks of price increases. According to Oleksandr Haidu, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, the increase in costs for diesel fuel and fertilizers could push prices up by 8–10%, as manufacturers will include these costs in the final cost of products.
Among the proposals to stabilize the industry, Kukhiashvili names the adoption of bill 6068-d on combating unfair trade practices, the introduction of protective measures against growing imports, strengthening the fight against "gray" imports, and priority purchases of Ukrainian dairy products for state needs.
