A new biomethane production enterprise has begun operations in Ukraine, which has already become the largest in its industry. This is a plant owned by the Teofipol Energy Company and opens up new opportunities for the development of alternative energy in the country.
The launch of the facility was announced by the Chairman of the Board of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, Georgy Geletukha. The information was also confirmed by the specialized publication ExPro, which covers key events in the energy sector.
In terms of technical characteristics, the enterprise is a leader in its field: its design capacity reaches approximately 56 million cubic meters of biomethane per year. This volume allows us to significantly strengthen the position of renewable energy sources in the country's energy balance.
One of the main features of the new plant is its direct connection to the gas transportation system of Ukraine. Thanks to this, the produced biomethane can be immediately fed into the main gas pipelines, bypassing the gas distribution networks. This significantly simplifies the integration of the resource into the general supply system and distinguishes the company from most other producers.
After the commissioning of this facility, the total number of biomethane producers in Ukraine increased to six. At the same time, the total annual capacity of all enterprises in the industry reached 106 million cubic meters.
Experts expect further expansion of the sector: another, seventh biomethane plant is planned to be launched this year. This indicates a gradual increase in interest in and investment in alternative energy.
However, despite the positive dynamics, the scale of biomethane production remains relatively small. The total capacity of the sector is estimated at approximately 0.1 billion cubic meters per year, which is significantly inferior to the volume of natural gas consumption in Ukraine.
For comparison, the domestic demand for natural gas in the country is about 20 billion cubic meters per year. This means that biomethane currently only has a small market share, but has the potential for further growth in the future.
