Ukraine continues to be the largest supplier of sunflower oil to the European Union market, although export volumes have significantly decreased compared to last year. This is reported by Latifundist.com.
According to the European Commission, in the period from July 1, 2025 to February 1, 2026, EU countries imported slightly less than 1.04 million tons of sunflower oil. For comparison, for the same period in 2024–2025, the volume of supplies reached 1.28 million tons.
Of this total volume, Ukraine supplied 950 thousand tons of sunflower oil, which, according to analysts at Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, corresponds to almost 92% of the EU market. Thus, despite the reduction in volumes, Ukraine retained its dominant position among exporters.
The reason for the decrease in supplies was internal factors, in particular, a decrease in the sunflower harvest. If in 2024 Ukraine collected 13 million tons, then in 2025 the volume decreased to 10.5 million tons. This limited the possibilities of processing raw materials and significantly affected the country's export potential.
Additional pressure on supplies was created by Russian attacks on infrastructure and port facilities, which slowed down logistics. Despite this, market data indicate a gradual restoration of export flows and stabilization of supplies to the EU.
The second most important suppliers of sunflower oil to the EU remain Moldova and Serbia, with market shares of approximately 5% and less than 2%, respectively. Such concentration confirms Ukraine's strategic role in the European oil market and its importance for the food security of the region.
