A new increase in greenhouse cucumber prices has been recorded in Ukraine. The main factors behind the increase were increased demand from wholesale buyers and limited supply of products on the domestic market.
This was reported by analysts of the EastFruit project, who note that the situation on the cucumber market remains tense. The volumes of sampling in Ukrainian greenhouse plants are currently minimal, which does not allow to fully satisfy the needs of buyers.
In the second half of this week, there has been a noticeable revival of the activity of wholesale companies. At the same time, producers cannot quickly increase supplies, since the full sales season at most greenhouse enterprises has not yet started.
As of today, greenhouse cucumbers on the Ukrainian market are offered at a price of UAH 135 to 165 per kilogram, which is equivalent to approximately $3.13–3.82/kg. On average, this is 12% more expensive than at the end of last week.
Analysts note that an additional factor in price growth is the lack of significant competition from imported products. Import volumes do not create pressure on the market, which allows prices to maintain an upward trend.
Importers predict that the trend towards higher prices for greenhouse vegetables, in particular cucumbers, will continue at least until the end of February. Until then, supply shortages and stable demand will remain key market drivers.
