A noticeable increase in prices for greenhouse cucumbers has been recorded in Ukraine. At the beginning of this week, these products are on sale in the range of UAH 115–145 per kilogram, which is an average of 10% higher than the price level observed at the end of the previous working week.
According to the analytical platform EastFruit, the increase in cost was the result of a combination of several factors that simultaneously affected the market situation. The key role is played by the consistently high demand for cucumbers, which remains both from retail chains and large wholesale buyers.
At the same time, the supply of greenhouse cucumbers on the domestic market remains limited. Market participants note that the volumes of samples in domestic greenhouse plants are currently insignificant and irregular. This situation is typical for this period of the year and is explained by the seasonal characteristics of production.
Analysts also draw attention to the role of imports in securing the market. Cucumbers are steadily imported from abroad, mainly from Turkey, but even regular deliveries are not able to fully compensate for the shortage of products and satisfy the existing demand.
In conditions of limited supply, sellers are gradually revising their selling prices upwards. This applies to both Ukrainian-produced cucumbers and imported products, which further strengthens the overall price dynamics on the market.
Experts note that currently greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine cost an average of 15% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, a significant decrease in prices is not expected in the near future, because domestic greenhouse plants plan to bring the first batches of new cucumbers to the market no earlier than mid-February of this year.
