The farm "Svitanok Stari Mayaki" has completed the creation of a mixed walnut orchard on 105 hectares, where walnuts and hazelnuts are grown. This is the result of many years of experience, research and experiments with different varieties and growing technologies, reports techhorticulture.com.

The initial idea to grow large walnut orchards arose in the Kherson region, where 7,000 hectares of land remained during the occupation. Because of this, the plans were transferred to the Odessa region, where farmers established a nursery to study the features of growing walnut crops and assess the economic feasibility of the project.

To improve their skills, the farm team actively attended international conferences and exhibitions on walnut growing in Moldova, France, and the USA. There they got acquainted with modern technologies for establishing industrial orchards and the features of agricultural technology.

“Svitanok Stari Mayaki” deliberately decided to combine hazelnuts and walnuts in one orchard, although this complicates the work. Despite the same equipment and the use of the same workers, it is necessary to take into account different ripening periods - hazelnuts ripen much earlier than walnuts.

As of today, the farm has planted 100 hectares of hazelnut orchards and 5 hectares of walnut orchards. In addition, the company is developing its own nursery, which is currently at the initial stage, since the procedure for certifying seedlings in Ukraine takes a long time.

Representatives of the farm emphasize that the key to the business is the right choice of varieties. “Growing technology can be studied, but it all depends on the variety,” said Oleg Gladky, a representative of “Svitanok Stari Mayaki”.

The created orchard will allow the farm not only to increase production volumes, but also to consolidate the status of one of the leading companies in the region in growing nut crops. Own nursery and mixed culture contribute to increased economic efficiency and business stability in the long term.
