A new program to support rural communities in frontline regions with a total budget of $4 million is being launched in Ukraine. The initiative is aimed at helping farmers and households affected by hostilities and aims to restore food production and economic activity on the ground.
The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine announced the launch of the program. The agency notes that the project will be implemented in three frontline regions — Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv.
The program is expected to cover more than 6,000 rural households. Priority support will be provided to the most vulnerable categories of the population, including internally displaced persons, as well as families and farmers who have returned to their communities after being forced to leave.
The main goal of the assistance is to ensure food production and create the prerequisites for the restoration of profitable activities of farmers. This includes supporting the cultivation of agricultural crops and the development of livestock, which is critically important for the food security of the regions.
A separate direction of the program involves restoring access to agricultural lands that were contaminated with explosive objects. This component, in particular, will be implemented in the Mykolaiv region, where significant areas of land need to be demined and brought into a safe state.
According to the Ministry of Economy, within the framework of the program, more than 4 thousand rural households will receive vegetable and potato seeds. This will allow households to restore their own food production and reduce dependence on external supplies.
In addition, about 1,900 households engaged in livestock farming will receive targeted support. This includes the provision of sets of daily-born young poultry, as well as financial assistance for the purchase of feed and veterinary services.
The program also provides individual support to small farmers registered in the State Agrarian Register. It will include the provision of greenhouses, irrigation and water storage systems, vouchers, as well as various types of technical assistance.
The start of assistance is scheduled for spring 2026. Registration of participants will be carried out through territorial communities. The start of registration and the start of the program will be announced in separate official announcements.
