As of December 1, 2025, more than 8.36 million tons of sugar beets were processed in Ukraine, which allowed 26 sugar factories that are part of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “Ukrsugar” to produce 1.25 million tons of sugar. This was reported by the press service of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “Ukrsugar”.
The current sugar yield is 15.02%, which exceeds the indicator of last season of 14.11%. This is explained by the higher sugar content of beets this year. In December, 22 more sugar factories will continue processing, which will ensure a stable pace of production until the end of the season.
Among the regions, Vinnytsia region remains the leader in sugar production, where 263 thousand tons of products have already been produced. The Horokhiv Sugar Plant, which is not part of Ukrtsukor and does not provide operational information on the progress of production, also processes beets.
Despite the record figures, a decrease in sugar production is expected in Ukraine compared to the previous season. This year, it is planned to produce about 1.5 million tons of products. The new sugar refining season started on September 1, and 27 plants will operate this year.
A significant reduction in the area under sugar beets to 198 thousand hectares, which is 22% less than last season, is due to the limited EU quota for the import of Ukrainian sugar. However, even taking this into account, the projected production volume is sufficient to cover domestic consumption, which is estimated at 900 thousand tons from 2022.
Ukrainian sugar producers continue to actively work on foreign markets. In 2024, a historical export record was set - 746.3 thousand tons of sugar worth $419 million. This demonstrates the resilience of the industry and its ability to meet both domestic and international demand.
