The average size of a farm in Ukraine has increased from 479 hectares in 2010 to 649 hectares in 2024, significantly exceeding the average in European countries. Such data are provided in the study “Structure of Farms in Ukraine”, presented during the meeting of the Committee of Entrepreneurs of the Agricultural Industry of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The study emphasizes that the role of small farms (individuals) in production is decreasing, in particular due to the consequences of the full-scale Russian invasion. Instead, legal entities remain the basis of agricultural production and exports, including farms, which in 2024 provided 71% of the total production.

Medium-sized farms are of particular importance, the average size of which reaches 1493 hectares per farm. In recent years, their number and share in agricultural production have increased significantly, which indicates dynamic changes in the segment of medium-sized enterprises.

At the same time, the concentration of agricultural production is sub-sectoral, not sectoral. Farms with an area of ​​​​over 1,000 hectares provide almost 75% of official jobs, while small and medium-sized enterprises perform the most important social function for rural communities.

Agriculture in 2024 generated 13.7% of the country's GDP, providing 2.3-2.5 million jobs (15% of employment). Exports of agricultural products reached $ 24.5 billion, which is 59% of total exports, compared to 40% in 2021.

At the same time, losses to the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex due to Russian aggression exceeded $80 billion, and 5 million hectares of agricultural land (up to 20% of the total area) remain inaccessible due to occupation and mining. These factors continue to affect the development of the agricultural sector and require comprehensive state regulation and support.
