  • Sunflower topped the ranking of the most profitable crops in 2025: what the farmers' study showed
    Опубликовано: 2025-11-17 18:04:46

In 2025, sunflower became the most profitable agricultural crop in Ukraine. Such conclusions were made in a study by the All-Ukrainian Congress of Farmers, the results of which were received by the Ukrinform agency. EBITDA calculations confirm that this crop provides farmers with the highest level of profitability, leaving wheat, corn, soybeans and rapeseed behind.

Analysts note that under favorable weather conditions and the use of high-quality technologies — in particular fertilizers, certified seeds and modern plant protection products — the profitability of sunflower can reach $985 per hectare. The highest indicators are recorded in the western regions of the country, where natural conditions and soil structure allow maximizing the potential of this crop.

Despite the leadership of sunflower in profitability, some other crops demonstrate higher yield indicators. For example, corn yields in different parts of the country range from 4 to 9.7 t/ha, while sunflower yields range from 2.2 to 3.2 t/ha. At the same time, the costs of growing corn are much higher: from $847 to $1,408 per hectare, while sunflower yields range from $763–942 per hectare.

Farmers emphasize that to ensure stable corn yields, it is necessary to use anhydrous ammonia, soil herbicides, and adhere to proper crop rotation. In particular, including rapeseed and wheat in the rotation is critically important to reduce risks and increase yield indicators.

Not all crops showed high results in 2025. Soybean, according to experts, has not been profitable for most farms for two years in a row. Its financial indicators remain modest: from $86 per hectare in the north to $163 in the east of the country. This suggests that farmers need to be careful in assessing cropping patterns and investment levels.

Overall, the study results highlight the growing role of economic analysis in agricultural production planning. Farmers are increasingly focusing on the real profitability of crops, combining traditional approaches with modern technologies to increase efficiency even in difficult economic conditions.
