The Ukrainian electric car market in October 2025 demonstrated unprecedented results, setting a new record. 13,278 electric cars were registered per month, which is 4.8% more than in September and almost twice the figure for October 2024. Thus, sales of electric cars in Ukraine have actually doubled over the year, according to the Institute for Automotive Market Research.

Experts note that the growth of interest in electric transport is due to several factors. Among the main ones are the increase in fuel costs, the strengthening of the trend towards environmental friendliness, as well as the expectation of a VAT refund on customs clearance of electric cars from January 1, 2026. It is the prospect of a third increase in the price of cars that stimulates Ukrainians to purchase an electric car before the end of the year.

Business analyst Ostap Novytskyi notes that the increased demand will persist at least until December. After the VAT changes come into force, a short-term decline in market activity is expected, after which the market will stabilize and resume growth. He emphasized that the tax will apply only to VAT at a rate of 20%, while the customs duty will remain zero, and the excise duty will be preferential (1 euro per 1 kWh). In addition, owners of electric cars will continue to be exempt from paying a fee to the Pension Fund upon first registration of the car.

The main share of the market, according to the results of October, was traditionally formed by used electric cars imported from abroad. Their share is 57.3% (7,596 registrations), which is 12.9% more than in September and 136.4% higher than last year. This indicates a rapid growth in the popularity of used electric cars among Ukrainians.

The second largest segment is the domestic resale market, which accounted for 25.2% of all transactions (3,345 cars). Although a 10.5% decline was recorded compared to September, this figure increased by 35.8% year-on-year, indicating an increase in the purchase and sale of existing electric cars within the country.

The new electric car segment also reached record figures - 2,337 units, or 17.5% of the market. This is the first time that the number of new cars exceeded the two thousand mark. Compared to September, imports of new electric cars increased by 5.2%, and in annual terms - by 139.7%.

As of the end of October 2025, there are 203.8 thousand electric vehicles in Ukraine, of which 199.6 thousand are passenger cars, 4.2 thousand are trucks, and 9 are electric buses. Tesla remains the undisputed leader among brands (20.2%), followed by Nissan (18%) and Volkswagen (12.4%). The average age of electric cars in Ukraine is 5.7 years, which makes this segment the youngest among all types of vehicles.

The record October confirms: Ukrainians are increasingly actively switching to electric traction, and the national car market is confidently moving towards sustainable mobility.
