  • Hungary and Poland maintain restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products
    Опубликовано: 2025-11-03 18:05:50

The Hungarian government does not plan to lift the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products even after the entry into force of the updated trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU. This was reported by the Ukrainian Grain Association (UZA) with reference to the statement of the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary István Nagy.

The minister noted that EU bureaucrats "subordinate everything to Ukrainian interests", while not taking into account the problems of European farmers. According to Nagy, a free trade agreement with a country at war raises serious concerns, especially in terms of increasing quotas for duty-free exports of Ukrainian goods to the EU.

The Hungarian government confirmed that it continues to protect national farmers, leaving the border closed to Ukrainian agricultural products unilaterally. This decision reflects the desire of the Hungarian authorities to support the domestic market and avoid excessive pressure on local producers.

Poland also confirmed that it will not lift the indefinite ban on imports of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. Despite the entry into force of the updated trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the current restrictions remain in place.

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stressed that the new agreement does not change the current rules and does not take into account all the country's proposals to protect the national agricultural sector from the potential negative impact of Ukrainian imports. Thus, Poland also continues to defend the interests of its farmers against an increase in the flow of Ukrainian products to the domestic market.

Maintaining these restrictions reflects the desire of both countries to balance European integration and the protection of their own agricultural sector. This decision creates additional challenges for Ukrainian exporters, who will have to look for alternative sales markets or negotiate separate bilateral agreements.
