This week, Ukraine has seen a noticeable decrease in prices for white cabbage, which is associated with an excess of production on the market. A significant part of the harvest is represented by medium-late varieties that are not suitable for long-term storage, reports EastFruit.
According to analysts, producers are currently offering cabbage at a price of 5–10 UAH/kg, which is 16% less than at the end of last week. Most farms are actively harvesting, due to which the supply on the market is constantly growing.
Demand for white cabbage remains quite low. Wholesalers and retail chains purchase products mainly in small batches due to the limited sales period and the low quality of individual batches. This creates additional pressure on prices.
Experts note that average prices are now 66% lower than in the same period last year. Such a decrease is due to both high supply and the seasonal factor of harvesting.
Analysts predict that due to the continuation of the harvest and increased supplies to the market, prices may fall further if there is no increase in demand.
At the same time, producers and retail chains are looking for ways to stabilize the market, for example, by sorting products by quality or creating local sales channels for fresh cabbage to avoid significant crop losses.
