  • China imposes anti-dumping duties on EU pork: rates reach 62.4%
    Опубликовано: 2025-09-08 13:03:07

China announced on September 5, 2025, the introduction of temporary anti-dumping duties on imports of certain types of pork from the European Union. The new tariffs, the amount of which can reach 62.4%, come into force on September 10. This decision intensifies the trade dispute between China and the EU, which began after the introduction of European duties on Chinese electric cars. This is reported by Reuters.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, a preliminary investigation has found evidence of dumping practices that harm domestic producers. It was established that the duty rates will vary depending on the type of product - from 15.6% to 62.4%.

The investigation, which has been ongoing since June last year, covers pork exports from the EU worth more than $ 2 billion. Exporting countries such as Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark could be hit the hardest. A significant part of their exports are pork offal – ears, noses and feet – which are popular in Chinese cuisine but are difficult to compete with in other markets.

Although the duties imposed are temporary, their application has dashed hopes among European producers for a quick resolution to the trade dispute. Experts say this creates additional risks for exporters, especially smaller companies that cannot easily redirect their products to other markets.

The investigation is expected to last until December 2025, by which time the tariffs could be revised or lifted. Previous precedents suggest that China may continue the investigation even after imposing preliminary duties, leaving room for negotiations in the coming months.

This decision demonstrates how quickly trade disputes can escalate in the global market and highlights the importance of strategic planning for European pork exporters active in the Asian market.
