  • Farmers warn of the risk of a food crisis due to the blocking of nitrogen fertilizer imports
    Опубликовано: 2025-08-26 13:02:18

The All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council (AAC) has appealed to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and the Head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper with an urgent request to unblock the import of mineral nitrogen fertilizers through Ukrainian sea ports.

According to the AAC press service, the situation on the fertilizer market in the country continues to deteriorate due to a shortage, which in the near future may lead to a significant decrease in crop yields.

The organization’s appeal emphasizes that the ban applies not only to ammonium nitrate grade A, which is indeed explosive, but also to other types of nitrogen fertilizers, which are completely safe. At the same time, these fertilizers are critically important for application to the soil during the spring sowing season.

The AAC emphasizes that Ukraine is completely dependent on the import of mineral fertilizers. "Without timely supply, it is impossible to ensure the future harvest. If the problem is not urgently resolved, next year the country may face a 30% reduction in the yield of key crops and, as a result, a serious food crisis," the farmers warn.

The organization calls on the government and regional authorities to immediately resume consideration of the issue and ensure the unblocking of imports through sea ports of at least the following basic mineral fertilizers: KAS, ammonium sulfate, urea, potassium chloride, superphosphate.

The VAR hopes for quick support from the state and believes that joint efforts can avoid a drop in yield and preserve the fertility of Ukrainian soils. The organization emphasizes that the stability of the country's food supply in the coming season depends on a timely resolution of this issue.
