Despite the difficult conditions of wartime, Ukrainian farmers have practically completed the spring sowing campaign of 2025. Thanks to the daily hard work of farmers who risk their lives, the country continues to ensure food security both within the state and abroad. This was reported by the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, agronews.ua reports.
According to the operational data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of June 13, 5.633 million hectares were sown with spring grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine. This is 99% of the projected 5.681 million hectares, which indicates a stable progress of the sowing campaign, despite the difficulties associated with the war.
The largest areas are occupied by corn - 4.031 million hectares, which corresponds to 100% of the planned volume. Sowing works with other crops are also close to completion: wheat - 221.2 thousand hectares (97%), barley - 753.2 thousand hectares (97%), peas - 212.7 thousand hectares (98%), oats - 158.9 thousand hectares (99%). Slightly lower indicators are demonstrated by millet and other cereals: 71.7 thousand hectares and 104.7 thousand hectares, respectively - 94% of the forecast.
Compared to the same date last year, this year's sowing rates remain practically unchanged. In 2024, as of June 13, 5.566 million hectares were sown, or 99.4% of the then forecast (5.68 million hectares), which demonstrates the stability of the agricultural sector even in conditions of extraordinary challenges.
In addition to grains and legumes, the sowing of oilseed crops continued actively in Ukraine. As of the indicated date, sunflower was sown on an area of 5.017 million hectares (99% of the plan), and soybeans - on 2.387 million hectares, which is also 99%. This confirms the leading role of oilseed crops in the structure of Ukrainian agricultural production.
The current results indicate a high level of organization of the agricultural sector even in crisis conditions. Despite limited resources, threats of shelling and problems with logistics, Ukrainian agricultural producers continue to work in a strategically important industry that ensures the country's food balance and supports the state's export potential.
