Unusual top dressing: why you should treat tomatoes with milk with iodine
Experienced gardeners are increasingly resorting to non-standard methods of caring for vegetables, in particular tomatoes. One of such effective solutions is the use of a mixture of milk with iodine to top dress plants. This simple but effective remedy helps not only to improve yield, but also to protect tomatoes from diseases.
Milk is a natural source of calcium, proteins and lactose. When diluted with water and iodine is added, a kind of biostimulant is formed, which acts as a fertilizer and a preventive agent at the same time. This composition strengthens the immunity of plants, promotes the development of healthy green mass and active flowering.
Iodine, in turn, plays the role of an antiseptic. It destroys spores of fungal diseases, such as late blight - one of the most dangerous diseases of tomatoes. Thanks to regular treatment with iodine in combination with milk, you can significantly reduce the risk of infection and avoid the need to use chemicals.
To prepare such a product, a simple recipe is used: for 1 liter of water, take 100 ml of milk (preferably homemade or at least non-fat) and add 3–5 drops of iodine. The resulting solution is sprayed on the leaves and stems of plants once every 10–14 days, preferably in the evening or in cloudy weather to avoid burns.
Thanks to this natural fertilizer, tomatoes receive balanced nutrition and protection from pathogens. In addition, the milk-iodine mixture has a positive effect on the soil - it inhibits the development of harmful microflora and at the same time stimulates beneficial bacteria.
