A significant increase in prices for food and soft drinks has been recorded in Ukraine. According to the State Statistics Service, in May 2025, the average price level in this category exceeded the indicators of May last year by 22.1%. The increase in prices covered almost all major groups of goods.

The largest jump was recorded in the egg segment - their cost increased by 86% in a year. This is a record among all commodity items. Experts attribute such an increase to the increase in the cost of feed, seasonal factors and a reduction in production volumes at individual enterprises.

High inflation rates are also observed in the categories of vegetables and sunflower oil - prices for these products increased by 35.4%. Fruits increased in value by 33.5%, and butter by 28.5%. Such changes, according to analysts, are due to both internal production difficulties and increased logistics costs.

Prices for basic dairy products have also increased significantly. Milk has risen in price by 20.9%, and cheese and fermented milk cheese by 18%. According to farmers, this trend is associated with increased costs for livestock and instability in feed supplies.

Bread, one of the basic goods of the Ukrainian consumer basket, has also become more expensive. Compared to May 2024, its average price has increased by 22.3%. At the same time, prices for soft drinks have increased by 19.7%, which indicates general inflation in the segment of everyday consumer products.

Such a wide and significant increase in the cost of food products creates an additional financial burden on the population. Economists are calling for increased government control over pricing and expanded programs to support vulnerable segments of the population to mitigate the effects of food inflation.
