At the end of the summer of 2024, a significant increase in retail prices for semi-finished meat products was observed in Ukraine. According to the "Pig Farmers of Ukraine" association, meat prices in supermarkets showed a tendency to increase, which is confirmed by the results of the monthly monitoring of retail trade.

Among the main meat products that have increased in price, the leader was chilled pork. In August, its price increased by 3.2% compared to July. Chicken also went up in price by 2.5%, and beef increased in price by 2.8%. Despite this, experts note that pork remains more affordable for consumers compared to the same period last year.

According to analysts, the average price of a kilogram of chilled pork in August was UAH 199.6, which is a lower figure compared to August 2023 (UAH 206.1/kg) and December 2023 (UAH 202.7/kg). This indicates the relative stability of pork prices, despite the general increase.

However, not all categories of meat products are subject to this trend. Experts note that premium types of pork, such as steaks, tenderloin and neck, are becoming more expensive than others. This is especially true for neck and thigh meat, which showed significantly higher rates of price growth in August.

Seasonal demand for some meat products also plays an important role in pricing. For example, demand for pork traditionally increases in late summer due to the busy picnic season, which affects prices.

Thus, consumers should expect further changes in the meat market. The increase in prices in August is likely to continue in the autumn period, especially for more popular meat products and semi-finished products.
