The use of palm oil in food products is prohibited in Ukraine

New rules have entered into force in Ukraine that prohibit the use of palm oil in food products. This step is part of the state's efforts aimed at improving the quality of food and protecting the health of citizens.

According to the new regulations, food manufacturers must take urgent measures to eliminate palm oil from the ingredients of their products. The law, which came into force from the beginning of September 2024, requires that all food products containing palm oil must either be withdrawn from sale or repackaged with new ingredients.

This measure is based on numerous studies confirming the negative impact of palm oil on human health. It is a source of saturated fats that can contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases and other chronic diseases. The authorities emphasize that the new law aims to reduce the consumption of harmful fats among Ukrainians and improve the overall health of the nation.

In addition, the new law encourages producers to find alternative sources of fats, such as olive, rapeseed or sunflower oil. This should have a positive effect on the quality of food products, as these oils contain less saturated fat and are more beneficial for the body.

According to experts, the transition to other types of oils can also have an economic impact on the market. The cost of alternative oils is usually higher, which can lead to higher prices for some products. However, according to experts, the long-term benefit from improving the health of the population will cover possible short-term economic costs.

The ban on palm oil in Ukraine also corresponds to global trends in the field of food safety and healthy nutrition. Many countries have already taken similar measures, and Ukraine follows these examples, demonstrating its commitment to the health of its citizens and high standards of food quality.
