The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a law prohibiting the use of palm oil in the production of dairy products, baby food and confectionery. This decision was confirmed on Tuesday and is aimed at improving the quality of food products consumed by Ukrainians, People's Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak said in his Telegram channel, ProAgro Group reports.

The main goal of the new draft law is to ban the use of palm oil in food products, in particular those intended for children. The law also limits the use of hydrogenated palm oil and other hydrogenated vegetable fats, which are widely used in food production.

In particular, the innovations involve a number of key changes. First, the law prohibits the use of palm oil in traditional dairy products. Secondly, it prohibits the use of hydrogenated palm oil in baby food. The document also prohibits the use of hydrogenated vegetable fats, particularly palm oil, in confectionery products such as chocolate and ice cream.

In addition, the draft law provides for the introduction of fines for violation of the new requirements. Manufacturers who do not comply with the established norms may be fined. The law also introduces requirements for clear and understandable labeling of products containing palm oil, which will allow consumers to more easily navigate when choosing products.

Thanks to this bill, Ukrainians will be able to be sure of the quality of the products they consume, especially when it comes to baby food. It can also have a positive effect on the general health of the population, because palm oil contains saturated fats that can be harmful to the body.

The innovation will enter into force in the near future, and it is expected that they will significantly change the food products market in Ukraine, ensuring greater safety and quality of products reaching consumers' tables.
