Ukrainian farmers are actively completing the spring sowing campaign. As of May 23, 2025, 5.3 million hectares of spring grains and legumes have already been sown in the country, which is 94% of the projected area. Such data is provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, reports ProAgro Group.

The largest area traditionally falls on corn - it has already been sown on 3.76 million hectares, which is 93% of the plan. Spring barley crops cover 743.6 thousand hectares (96%), spring wheat - 215.3 thousand hectares (95%), peas - 212 thousand hectares (98%), and oats - 158.4 thousand hectares (98%). Sowing of buckwheat and millet, on the contrary, lags significantly behind: buckwheat was sown on only 49.7 thousand hectares (56%), and millet - on 43.9 thousand hectares (58%).

The regional leader in terms of grain sowing areas was Poltava region - 545.2 thousand hectares. This is followed by Chernihiv (476.5 thousand hectares), Vinnytsia (393.8 thousand hectares), Sumy (385.8 thousand hectares) and Cherkasy (372.6 thousand hectares) regions. In these regions, favorable weather conditions and developed infrastructure contributed to the active implementation of the spring campaign.

Along with grains, sowing of industrial crops is also underway, which as of the end of May were sown on 6.8 million hectares - this is 85% of the projected volume. Sunflower was sown the most - 4.35 million hectares (86%). The leader among the regions in terms of sunflower sowings was Dnipropetrovsk region — 668.4 thousand hectares. Soybeans have already been sown on 2 million hectares (84%), and the area under sugar beets reached 217.1 thousand hectares, which is almost 99% of the plan. The largest amount of beets was sown in Vinnytsia region — over 50.5 thousand hectares.

Despite certain difficulties, in particular unstable weather conditions and logistical challenges, this year's sowing campaign is going according to schedule. The high level of work organization and the desire to preserve the country's agricultural potential allow Ukraine to confidently form the basis of the future harvest even in the conditions of the ongoing war.
