Beet prices in Ukraine are rising rapidly: stocks are melting, demand is growing

16 май, 18:07

In Ukraine, the price of last year's table beets continues to rise. This week, the cost of root crops increased by an average of 10% compared to last week, reaching 25–33 hryvnias per kilogram. This is evidenced by data from analysts of the EastFruit project.

Analysts call the main reason for the price increase the growth in demand from large wholesale buyers and retail chains. Against this background, the available stocks of quality products at farmers are rapidly decreasing, which further heats up the price situation on the market.

The situation is also complicated by the fact that Ukrainian farms have almost exhausted their stocks of last year's harvest. Beets that remain in storage often lose quality and do not meet consumer requirements, which exacerbates the shortage of quality goods.

According to market experts, current beet prices are already about 36% higher than the level of the same period in 2023. This indicates a long-term growth trend that may continue until the start of the new harvest.

Market participants believe that such price dynamics are unlikely to change in the coming weeks. Demand for beets from retail chains is consistently high, while new products will not appear before the second half of summer.

Thus, beets currently remain one of the most expensive items among vegetable products in Ukraine. Market participants advise consumers not to expect a decrease in prices in the near future, especially given the unstable weather conditions that may affect the yield of the new season.
