At the start of spring: asparagus and greenhouse vegetables appear on the market, prices gradually decrease

At the end of April, one of the most popular spring novelties appears on the Ukrainian markets - asparagus. This delicacy opens the season of expensive vegetables every year, and 2025 was no exception. According to ProAgro Group, prices for the first batches of asparagus start at 600 UAH per kilogram. However, producers reassure - at the height of the season it will be possible to buy it much cheaper.

It is expected that already in May, asparagus will become cheaper in the markets to 400–500 UAH/kg. And those who are looking for better conditions should pay attention to direct purchases from farms: in such cases, the price may drop to 300 UAH/kg. Despite its premium status, the demand for this vegetable is consistently high, especially among connoisseurs of healthy eating.

In parallel with asparagus, the first greenhouse vegetables of the new season also appear on the market. This is not only about the popular cucumbers and tomatoes, but primarily about early cabbage, carrots and onions. Analysts predict that in the first half of May the prices for these vegetables may decrease by 10–15%, which will please buyers against the background of the general increase in the price of products in previous months.

Special attention should be paid to the situation with potatoes. Currently, the shelves are dominated by products from last year, the price of which is kept at 35 UAH/kg. But it is gradually giving way to imported young potatoes, and soon Ukrainian greenhouse potatoes will also arrive. This will lead to a decrease in prices to 30 UAH/kg and below.

Such changes are due to both the natural course of the season and the increase in supply from greenhouse farms. Producers focused on the domestic market are actively responding to consumer demand, which allows us to expect further stabilization of vegetable prices during May.

In general, the end of April and the beginning of May will be marked for Ukrainian consumers by an increase in the range of vegetables, which are more affordable. The season is just beginning, and in the coming weeks the market will be filled with fresh produce from both greenhouses and open ground.
