Ukrainian fish for the Ukrainian army: for the first time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive domestic fish products

For the first time, an auction was held in Ukraine to purchase domestically produced fish for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This step became an important component of the state policy of import substitution and support for the national producer, initiated by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The results of the auction were reported by the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Vitaliy Koval. According to him, this approach demonstrates the real capabilities of the Ukrainian fishing industry, which is able not only to compete with imports, but also to ensure stable supplies of products for the army.

Koval recalled that in 2024 alone, the state purchased imported fish worth over 1 billion US dollars. This list included hake, pangasius and other species that were traditionally imported for the needs of the state sector, including the army.

However, this year the situation has changed: the auction showed a complete lack of interest from suppliers in the lot with imported fish species, such as pollock and cod. Instead, Ukrainian silver carp, carp and trout caused active competition among bidders, which indicates the readiness of domestic producers to meet the challenges of the time.

"We see the real potential of the Ukrainian fishing industry - and we will develop it. This is not only a matter of economy, but also of food security in wartime," the minister stressed. He added that the State Rear Operator is already working on expanding the range of products of Ukrainian origin for future state purchases.

The government hopes that the next auctions will further strengthen the position of national producers and reduce dependence on imports, while supporting Ukrainian business and providing our military with high-quality, safe and fresh products.
