Easter Basket 2025: What has become more expensive and how much have prices increased

In 2025, the cost of a traditional Easter basket for Ukrainians has increased significantly. Depending on its contents, the price varies from 426 UAH to 1,185 UAH, which is 33% more than in 2024. This is evidenced by market monitoring conducted by the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club.

The most noticeable increase in price affected dairy products, meat and eggs, while some grocery products even fell slightly in price. However, the general trend indicates an increase in the cost of key components of the Easter table. At the same time, experts predict that in the next two weeks prices will remain relatively stable, without sharp fluctuations.

In particular, chicken eggs have risen in price by 9% over the past month, reaching 76.4 UAH per dozen. This is almost 30% more than last year. It is expected that due to high demand, their cost will remain at this level until Easter, but after the holidays it may decrease by 25% due to an increase in supply from private farms.

Cooking 3-4 Easter cakes according to the classic recipe this year costs 318.4 UAH, which is 38.6% more than in 2024. The greatest impact on the price was had by butter (121 UAH for 200 g, +71%), milk (30 UAH for 500 g, +31%) and eggs (58 UAH for 8 pcs., +61%). Flour and sugar have become slightly cheaper over the past month - by 8% and 6%, respectively, although in annual terms their cost is still higher: flour - by 14%, and sugar - by 13%.

Meat products have also not escaped price increases. Pork currently costs UAH 275/kg, which is significantly higher than last year's level, while the price of lard remained almost unchanged at UAH 239/kg (+1% month-on-month and year-on-year). Hard cheese, which is often added to the Easter basket, has risen in price by 21% year-on-year and now costs UAH 595/kg.

Vegetables show mixed trends: tomatoes and cucumbers have become cheaper over the past month due to active imports and increased domestic production, but their cost still increased by 12-25% compared to 2024. Minor price fluctuations are possible on the eve of Easter, but no significant jump is expected.

The main expenses for the holiday basket in 2025 will fall on Easter bread, eggs, cheese and meat. Since this year Easter falls on April 20 and will be celebrated simultaneously by Eastern and Western Christians, the demand for these products may be even higher. In addition, inflation and seasonal factors may cause further price increases of 5-7% in the next two weeks. Accordingly, the average cost of an Easter basket in Ukraine has already reached UAH 1,124.77, which is 17% more than last year.
