The volume of agricultural exports from Ukraine decreased: how much product was sold in January

In January 2025, the volume of agricultural exports from Ukraine amounted to 5 million tons, which is 9.7% less than the previous month. This indicates a decrease in export supplies, which has been observed for the third month in a row, the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club (UKAB) reports.

Such a decline is typical for the winter period, when Ukraine traditionally reduces the production and export of agricultural products. However, this does not mean a significant disruption of the general trends in the development of the country's agricultural sector, since most of the harvest intended for export has already been exported in previous months.

In total, 3.5 million tons of grain crops were exported from Ukraine in January 2025. Among them, corn accounts for 72%, wheat - 26%, and barley - 2%. In addition, domestic farmers exported 352 thousand tons of oilseeds, of which soybeans account for 63%, rapeseed for 29%, and sunflower seeds for 6%.

424.4 thousand tons of vegetable oils were also exported, of which sunflower oil accounts for 89% and soybean oil for 10%. Another 406.3 thousand tons are oilcake, and 329.5 thousand tons are other types of agricultural products.

According to the Ukrainian Agricultural and Food Administration, although the export volumes of grain crops and vegetable oils remain at the level of the previous month, there is a significant decrease in the export of oilseeds and oilcake. In particular, the export of oilseeds decreased by 39%, and oilcake after the extraction of vegetable oils by 22%.

As for the general situation in the agricultural sector, a significant part of agricultural products intended for export has already been exported within the framework of the current marketing year. Thus, 64% of wheat and 55% of corn were exported. This means that in the coming months we can expect a further slight reduction in export shipments, as most of the harvest has already left the country.

These changes in Ukraine's agricultural exports indicate seasonal fluctuations in the market, however, despite the decrease in volumes, the agricultural sector continues to remain an important source of budget revenues and a stable element of the country's economy.
