Forecast: Corn acreage in Ukraine to grow by 5% in 2025

A significant increase in corn acreage is expected in Ukraine in 2025. According to forecasts, the area under this crop will increase by at least 5% compared to last year. This trend is confirmed by data from UkrAgroConsult, as reported by ProAgro Group.

The increase in corn acreage will be the result of changes in demand and market conditions, in particular, high prices for agricultural crops. According to Serhiy Feofilov, General Director of UkrAgroConsult, the area under corn is expected to reach 4.2 million hectares in 2025.

Serhiy Feofilov notes that over the past few years, the corn market has been under significant pressure due to the blockade of ports in 2022. At that time, the remnants of the record harvest of the pre-war year had a long impact on the market, and the lack of profit for two years forced farmers to think about the feasibility of growing this crop. However, in 2024, the situation changed: the profitability of corn cultivation was restored, even despite the serious impact of drought, which reduced yields.

Interestingly, corn prices in Ukraine this year increased by 30-40% compared to the previous season, which also contributes to the expansion of the area under this crop. Feofilov emphasized that the price of corn still has the potential for further growth, which creates an incentive for farmers.

At the same time, although corn occupies an important part of agricultural production, soybeans are likely to lose part of their sown areas due to the dominance of other crops, in particular corn and sunflower. Such changes in the structure of sown areas reflect the dynamics of market prices and the needs of farmers to ensure high profitability.

The forecast for 2025 indicates prospects for the restoration and growth of corn acreage in Ukraine. This is an important factor for the development of the agricultural sector, as corn is one of the main crops that ensures not only food security, but also significant export potential of the country.
