The UK has announced the launch of a new initiative that will help Ukraine track grain stolen by Russia from temporarily occupied territories. This will be an important step in the fight against the illegal trade in Ukrainian grain, which is often re-branded and sold on international markets after being stolen. The launch of the new scheme was announced by a British government department, which was confirmed by the League website.
The idea to launch the program arose after Ukraine appealed to the G7 group of countries with a request to help track stolen grain that falls into the hands of Russian traders. The Ukrainian authorities note that such assistance is extremely important for combating the food threat that arose against the background of the war, as well as for ensuring compliance with international law.
The new tracking system is based on advanced scientific technologies that allow identifying places where grain is grown and harvested. This will allow us to accurately determine whether a particular batch of grain is one of those that was stolen from Ukrainian lands currently under occupation. Thanks to this scheme, the UK hopes not only to support Ukraine in the fight against economic crimes, but also to strengthen global food security.
The UK government reports that a special database has been created to support this initiative, which will become part of international cooperation on grain tracking. This database will not only stop illegal trade, but also provide countries interested in the fair distribution of grain with accurate information about its origin.
"Ukraine remains one of the largest suppliers of agricultural products in the world. It is of strategic importance for global food security, and our support in tracking and stopping grain theft is critically important," the UK government said in an official statement.
Through this initiative, the UK is making a significant contribution to combating international economic crime and strengthening food security, one of the greatest challenges of our time.
