Potato prices have increased in Ukraine: factors and forecasts

In recent weeks, the Ukrainian potato market has seen a sharp increase in prices. According to EastFruit analysts, as of the beginning of the week, wholesale potato prices fluctuated in the range of 22-30 UAH/kg ($0.53-0.72/kg). Against the background of the previous week, this was an average increase of 22%.

One of the main reasons for the price increase was the preparation of wholesale companies and retail chains for the New Year holidays. Increased demand for the product contributes to increased trade and higher purchases from market participants.

Another important factor in the price increase was the supply shortage in the market, which arose due to a reduction in the harvest. It is noted that the summer drought that hit the main growing regions led to a significant decrease in yields.

According to analysts, potato prices in the country increased by 85% compared to the same period last year. Currently, experts predict a possible further slow price increase, as the supply situation on the market remains unstable.

The New Year season and insufficient supplies will remain the main factors in pricing on the potato market in the coming months.
