Ukrainian maritime corridor: a strategic path for the export of agricultural products and support of global food security

01 ноя, 13:02

The Ukrainian maritime corridor, created to ensure uninterrupted export of agricultural products, has demonstrated impressive results since its launch. Since the beginning of its operation, this route has ensured the shipment of more than 52.7 million tons of products grown by Ukrainian farmers. In total, more than 2,900 ships passed through the corridor, which contributes to the steady supply of Ukrainian goods to world markets.

According to the data of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine, the sea corridor has become an important transport artery that allows goods to be transported to Africa, Asia, Europe and America. The total volume of cargo transported through this corridor reached 79.1 million tons. This significantly affects global food security, because consumer countries receive the necessary amounts of food, which allows to avoid shortages and food crises.

Despite the challenges associated with the war, the Ukrainian corridor has become a reliable channel for the export of agricultural products to more than 50 countries of the world. This ensures uninterrupted access to Ukrainian goods, the demand for which remains high on world markets, especially given the current needs in food products.

According to the results of September 2024, Ukrainian seaports processed 7.1 million tons of cargo. This is more than double the corresponding figure for September 2023, when the volume of cargo handled was only 3.4 million tons. Such growth indicates a significant increase in the efficiency of ports and demand for Ukrainian agricultural products.

In general, during the period from January to September 2024, Ukrainian ports handled 74.2 million tons of cargo, which is significantly more than 41.1 million tons for the same period in 2023. At the same time, the number of vessels processed decreased to 8,630, compared to 11,038 in 2023, but this did not affect the total volume of exports in any way.

It is worth noting that agricultural products make up the largest part of cargo traffic - 46.3 million tons. This fact emphasizes its importance not only for the national economy, but also for ensuring food security at the global level.
