Algeria is considering buying corn and barley

Algeria intends to make significant purchases of corn and barley to meet domestic demand for these crops. This initiative is caused by the need to strengthen the country's food security, which is especially relevant in the context of global changes in the agricultural market.

In 2023, Algeria has already held a tender for the import of corn. According to preliminary estimates, the country plans to purchase about 700,000 tons of corn, which is a significant amount to cover the needs of the local industry. This decision is designed not only to provide the population with a product, but also to stabilize prices on the domestic market.

In addition to corn, Algeria also focuses on the purchase of barley. The country's authorities plan to import approximately 400,000 tons of this grain, which will be an important step to support animal husbandry and the agro-industrial complex. Barley is a key ingredient in the production of animal feed, making it extremely important to the agricultural sector.

One of the reasons for this demand for imports is unfavorable weather conditions, which negatively affected the yield of domestic crops. Drought and lack of sufficient rainfall led to a decline in production, forcing the government to look for alternative sources of supply.

The Algerian government is actively working to strengthen food security and reduce dependence on imported products. However, in the short term, the import of corn and barley will remain an important element of ensuring the stability of the food market.

It is expected that purchases on international markets will continue, as the country seeks not only to replenish domestic reserves, but also to ensure economic stability in the face of global challenges. Thus, Algeria continues to seek solutions to increase its agricultural productivity and reduce dependence on external suppliers.
