Harvest 2024: Ukrainian farmers harvested more than 62 million tons

Ukraine continues to demonstrate high indicators in harvesting. As of October 11, 2024, farmers harvested 62.2 million tons of new crops, having cultivated a total of 16.8 million hectares of cultivated land. Harvesting of wheat, barley, peas and rape has been completed, which have been harvested from 100% of the respective areas. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

According to the provided data, the largest share falls on grain crops - they were collected almost 40.2 million tons. Also, 17 million tons of oil crops and about 5 million tons of sugar beet were collected, which is an important contribution to the stabilization of the country's food supply and export potential.

In particular, wheat, which remains the main food crop in Ukraine, was harvested from an area of ​​4.9 million hectares, giving a total volume of 22.3 million tons. Barley was harvested from 1.4 million hectares, which provided 5.5 million tons of production. Peas, which were harvested from an area of ​​212.2 thousand hectares, added 465.3 thousand tons to the harvest.

As for other crops, corn was harvested from 48% of the area, cultivating 1.9 million hectares and yielding 10.6 million tons of grain. Millet was harvested on 89% of the area (82.9 thousand hectares), and its harvest amounted to 156.1 thousand tons. Buckwheat is also nearing the end of harvest with the result of 124.3 thousand tons harvested from 85.8 thousand hectares.

In addition to grain crops, harvesting of oil crops continues successfully. Sunflower, which is a strategic product for the Ukrainian agricultural sector, was harvested from 87% of the area, which amounted to 4.3 million hectares, providing 8.8 million tons of seeds. Soy was harvested on 80% of the area, which yielded a harvest of 4.8 million tons. Rape was harvested from 100% of the area, collecting 3.5 million tons of seeds.

Thus, 2024 shows stable results in the agricultural sector, despite the challenges and difficult conditions for farming. This testifies to the importance of the agricultural sector for the economy of Ukraine and its ability to provide domestic needs and export obligations.
