Onion prices in Ukraine are rising: reasons and forecasts

Onion prices in Ukraine began to rise rapidly at the beginning of this week. The main reason for the price increase was the reduction of supply on the market due to unfavorable weather conditions. As analysts of the EastFruit project report, the rise in prices is associated with a shortage of quality products, which was formed against the background of a difficult situation in farms.

Weather conditions, in particular, heavy rains that covered the southern regions of Ukraine, significantly complicated the harvesting process. Because of this, farmers are forced to stop work, which automatically reduces the volume of onions on the market and contributes to the increase in prices.

According to experts, the increase in onion prices was an expected consequence of such weather anomalies. They note that prolonged rains not only delay harvesting, but also negatively affect the quality of products, which further limits the choice for consumers. There is currently a shortage of high-quality onions on the market, which traditionally enjoys the greatest demand.

EastFruit analysts emphasize that the situation may remain tense until weather conditions stabilize. If the rains continue, the onion shortage will only increase, which may lead to a further increase in the prices of this product.

It is also a serious challenge for farmers as they bear additional costs to preserve crops in rainy weather. On the one hand, they are forced to wait for the improvement of the weather in order to collect the remnants of the crop, and on the other hand, they risk losing part of the products due to unfavorable storage conditions.

Thus, consumers are already facing a noticeable increase in onion prices, and according to experts' forecasts, this trend may persist in the coming weeks.
