Sharp drop in prices for cucumbers in Ukraine: what to expect next?

09 сен, 13:04

Prices for cucumbers in Ukraine have undergone a significant decrease due to the oversupply of this vegetable on the market. Greenhouse plants are forced to adjust their selling prices to remain competitive. At the same time, despite the decrease in price, the cost of cucumbers is currently still twice as high as at the beginning of September last year.

According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the main reason for such a decrease in price is a significant increase in the supply of cucumbers on the market. Greenhouse farms are now actively supplying cucumbers of the second turnover, which significantly exceeds the demand for these products. As a result, businesses are forced to lower prices to stimulate sales.

Representatives of greenhouse plants note that such a situation was quite expected. Commercial activity in the cucumber market remains quite low, while the volume of production continues to grow. This creates a surplus, which contributes to a further fall in prices.

It is worth noting that greenhouse cucumbers of the second turnover traditionally appear on the market precisely at this time of the year, and this affects the price dynamics. However, this year's drop in prices turned out to be much steeper than usual due to insufficient demand for products.

Despite this, greenhouse farms still hope for stabilization of the market in the near future. Experts assume that possible seasonal factors and an increase in demand may affect the further upward adjustment of prices.

Thus, the greenhouse sector of Ukraine is currently facing challenges related to the excess of supply over demand, which has led to a drop in cucumber prices. How long this situation will last will depend on further changes in the market and seasonal factors.
