Ukraine began to grow cotton for the production of gunpowder

This March, the Ukrainian government launched a new project aimed at growing cotton, which is an important component for the production of gunpowder. This move was part of the country's efforts to develop its own production capacity in the field of defense industry, which is especially relevant in light of the growing demand for ammunition.

According to the information provided by the press service of the National Defense Industry Association of Ukraine, experimental cotton cultivation is taking place in ten fields in different regions of the country. The purpose of this project is to assess the possibilities of Ukrainian raw materials for use in the production of explosives, which can significantly reduce dependence on imported supplies.

After harvesting, it is planned to carry out an examination, the results of which will show the extent to which cotton grown in Ukraine is suitable for the production of gunpowder. This will be a key stage in the process of expanding the country's capabilities in the production of ammunition.

Serhii Vysotskyi, the deputy head of the National Defense Industry Association, emphasized that the current global shortage of gunpowder significantly complicates the supply of necessary materials for the defense sector of Ukraine. This limits the ability of supplier countries to meet the growing needs of Ukrainian manufacturers in sufficient volume.

Vysotskyi also noted that Ukrainian companies that are part of the association can significantly increase the production of ammunition of various calibers, including 122-mm artillery shells and mortar mines. However, these plans require a stable supply of gunpowder and other explosives, which is currently in short supply.

The press service of the association emphasized that in order to achieve a significant increase in production capacity, it is necessary either to ensure a stable supply of gunpowder from abroad, or to establish its own production in Ukraine. The launched project on growing cotton can be an important step on the way to creating an autonomous production cycle for the needs of the defense industry.
