The surplus of the harvest caused a sharp decrease in the prices of plums in Ukraine

There is a significant oversupply of plums on the Ukrainian market, which has led to a significant drop in prices for this popular fruit. This situation is caused by overproduction in local farms, which currently does not find sufficient demand among wholesale buyers. This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.

According to experts, the seasonal factor led to a significant increase in the supply of plums on the market, which increased the pressure on prices. Currently, the demand for plums from wholesale companies remains at a low level, which in turn contributes to a further decrease in the cost of this product.

As of today, the price of plums from local farms varies between UAH 8-14 per kilogram. That's 54% cheaper than last week. Such a sharp drop in prices is causing concern among producers as they are forced to sell their products at prices that are already lower than last year's levels.

One of the reasons for this phenomenon is high air temperature, which led to accelerated ripening of plums. However, this negatively affected their quality, which became an additional factor for lowering prices. According to analysts, producers are concerned that current prices are significantly lower than last year: in 2023, plums were sold at an average of 33% more expensive.

In connection with the current situation, experts do not rule out a further decrease in plum prices. According to their forecasts, if the demand for products does not increase, gardeners will be forced to continue making concessions to buyers in order to avoid significant crop losses.

Thus, the plum market in Ukraine faces challenges that may have negative consequences for local producers, forcing them to review their sales strategies and adapt to changes in demand.
