Record rise in potato prices in Ukraine: The highest prices in five years

09 авг, 13:01

This week, Ukraine has seen a significant increase in potato prices, which have reached a five-year record. Currently, prices for this vegetable vary from UAH 13 to UAH 18 per kilogram, which indicates a serious increase in value on the market.

This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project. They note that the main reason for the increase in the price of potatoes is the limited supply of the product. Due to the drought in a number of regions, producers were forced to suspend harvesting, which reduced the supply to the market.

In particular, the shortage of quality potatoes also supports high prices. This leads to the fact that the main sales of this product are now taking place at prices in the range of UAH 13-18/kg, which is 20% more than at the end of the last working week.

Despite the increase in prices, the demand for potatoes in Ukraine remains quite high. Analysts note that today, on average, potato prices are 82% higher than the level of the first half of August 2023, when the price did not exceed UAH 10/kg.

As of today, potato prices are the highest in the last five years. Experts of the EastFruit project emphasize that, given the active demand, many Ukrainian farmers plan to raise potato prices as early as next week.

Thus, potato prices have reached a record level, which is due to both natural factors and market conditions. The government and relevant authorities should pay attention to these trends to prevent further increases in the prices of the staple food.
