Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine continue to rise: limited supply and high demand lead to price increases

Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine continue to show steady growth. Since the beginning of this week, the cost of products has risen by an average of 25%, which is due to several factors, analysts of the EastFruit project report.

According to the data provided by the greenhouse plants, the first round of cucumber collection was completed, and the remaining products were successfully sold. Producers working with a year-round cycle have increased the prices of their products, explaining this by the stable demand for high-quality cucumbers. As a result, greenhouse cucumbers are currently offered on the market at a price of 35 to 55 hryvnias per kilogram ($0.85-1.34/kg).

The main reason for the price increase is the off-season reduction in supply. Many greenhouse plants have completed the harvest of the first round and plan to resume production only in mid-August. Companies that continue to sell, raise prices every day due to the active demand for their products. Additionally, the limited supply of open ground cucumbers also keeps prices high.

Analysts note that greenhouse cucumbers are currently three times more expensive in Ukraine than at the end of July 2023. Many market participants do not rule out a further increase in prices, if current sales rates are maintained.

With reduced supply and high demand, the greenhouse cucumber market remains volatile and prices are likely to continue to rise, impacting end consumers.
