Imports of pork and lard to Ukraine have fallen sharply

During the first three months of 2024, pork imports to Ukraine decreased by 4.8 times compared to the same period last year, to 665 tons. Imports of lard, pork fat and poultry fat decreased by 1.8 times to 3986 tons during the same period. These data were provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in a commentary to Delo.ua.

Thus, according to the statistics, both in 2023 and in January-March 2024, lard imports exceeded pork imports.

The popularity of Ukrainian pork in the domestic market is explained by a significant decline in feed prices. According to the data, prices for them have decreased several times compared to 2022: wheat bran fell five times, soybean cake and sunflower meal - 2-3 times, cereals - 2 times.

Representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food emphasize that in 2023, only 3.8% of lard and 2.0% of pork were imported, while the rest was produced in Ukraine. In the period January-March 2024, these figures decreased even further - to 1.2% for lard and 0.5% for pig meat.
