The railroad section through Reni has launched continuous freight train traffic without customs control and stops. According to a report by Ukrzaliznytsia's Transport Logistics Center, the relevant protocol between the governments of Ukraine and Moldova came into force on October 17.
According to this decision, organized freight trains will be able to pass through the territory of Ukraine without stopping on the section Etulia (Republic of Moldova) - Reni (Ukraine) - Giurgiulesti (Republic of Moldova) and back.
Customs clearance of goods transported through Reni to Giurgiulesti station or to the territory of Romania (Galati) and vice versa will be carried out only at the checkpoints at the first entry/exit from Ukraine, such as Sokyryany, Mohyliv-Podilskyi and Basarabeaska (as well as Kuchurhan after the resumption of train traffic).
During the transitional period from December 1 to December 31, a paper (printed) copy of the customs declaration with the code of one of the specified customs posts will be attached to the transportation documents. This printout will be checked by the heads of departure stations when accepting export cargo through the Reni Giurgiulesti checkpoint.
As a reminder, in April, Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement on the continuous movement of freight trains through Reni, and in August, these changes were ratified by the Verkhovna Rada.
Also, in October, Ukraine and Moldova signed a protocol on joint control at the Kuchurhan-Novosavitska railroad crossing point in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy defined the railroad through Transnistria as "another route for our exports," emphasizing its importance for regional development. Unfortunately, no details have been provided on the practical implementation of this corridor.
