Ukraine and the European Commission demand that Poland cancel the border blockade
Today, Ukraine and the European Commission joined forces, speaking at the level of infrastructure ministers, to convince the Polish government to cancel the decision to block the border. The event, organized by representatives of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov, and Poland, Andrzej Adamchyk, together with the leadership of the European Commission, was a reaction to the decision of Polish carriers to block the border.
Poland made the decision to block the border in the context of unforeseen circumstances related, in particular, to changes in the political and social environment. This decision has a great impact on Ukrainian citizens who regularly cross the border for work, study or personal matters.
According to information from the European Commission, discussions on the border blockade have already begun, and joint efforts are being made to find a constructive way to resolve this issue. Diplomatic negotiations are ongoing, and both sides express readiness for dialogue and the search for a compromise.
The vice-president of the Association of International Automobile Carriers of Ukraine, Volodymyr Balin, emphasized that the purpose of the event is to urgently demand from Poland to cancel the blockade, which seriously complicates transportation and leads to significant financial losses for Ukrainian carriers.
Polish carriers, for their part, plan to intensify the strike, blocking even the fourth crossing point - Medica-Szegyny, starting from November 21. This endangers not only economic interests, but also confirms the intention of the strikers to continue the protest actions.
Balin revealed the losses suffered by Ukrainian transporters due to the strike, calculating them at about 300 euros per day for one vehicle in the queue. This creates serious financial challenges and negatively affects the work of carriers.
It should be emphasized that the problem arose on November 6, when Polish transporters started protesting at border checkpoints. On November 11, Ukraine already announced a meeting to resolve this situation, and on November 13, negotiations took place between Ukraine and Poland to lift the blockade on the border.
Events related to the border blockade are becoming the object of attention of the international community. Various countries and international organizations express their support for finding a rational and fair solution to this conflict.
In the conditions of growing tensions and uncertainty, it is necessary that the parties quickly reach a compromise and find a mutually beneficial solution. The removal of the border blockade is an important step for restoring the normal functioning of relations and setting a positive precedent for resolving similar situations in the future.
